Clean Your House Before Moving This Presidents Day
Use a Hose: Attach a hose to a broom. The hose will rinse the deck and help loosen caked dirt as you sweep it away with the broom. You can also add a cleaning solution to the water, but make sure you try the solution on a patch before using to make sure it doesn’t harm the finish.
Un-Clog Drains: Pour half cup of baking soda into the drain, then add a half cup of white vinegar to it. Wait for 15-20 minutes and then pout seven to eight cups of boiling water to flush the vinegar and baking soda down the drain. This will clear out the clogged drain without releasing any toxic vapors.
Clean Gas-top stove: Use a razor blade to scrape the residue food from the burner of a glass-top stove. After the pieces have been scraped off, wipe the surface clean with a clean damp cloth or paper towel.
Clean your microwave: Heat up the microwave for a few minutes to loosen up accumulated residue inside the oven. Mix equal parts white vinegar and water in a bowl and wipe down the inside of microwave using this solution with a paper towel.
Clean your windows: Put water or solution on your window and use newspapers to clean them. Newspapers are very absorbent and they don’t leave behind any lint and doesn’t streak. Just be careful around window frames as the ink can leave marks.
Scrub linoleum: Use toothpaste and dry cloth to scrub linoleum. Continue scrubbing until no toothpaste residue remains and your linoleum is left shiny.
Clean your bathroom: Dryer sheets work well on removing grime and hard water stain from toilets and shower doors. Wet the dryer sheets and use it to scrub, the weave of sheets gently grips the residue and fabric softener remaining in the sheet can loosen up stubborn buildups. You can also use a paste made from one tablespoon of vinegar and two tablespoons of salt to remove stains from fixtures.
Clean Cabinets: Mixing two parts baking soda with one-part vegetable oil in a bowl, will give you a paste that will remove caked on grime from a cabinet and make the wood appear less worn. Use a toothbrush to apply this mixture and scrub for better results.
